Great Day in Missouri - Took the Big Ones Out.

Had a great afternoon today with the temperature getting near the mid 50's in sourth central Missouri. The H, M and SMTA all got out of the carriage house today. Took them all out for 30 minutes or more and I think they enjoyed the exercise. Had a nice afternoon hearing that unique sound of real iron moving along. Hope others were able to enjoy the break as well, Hal.

Did you stay on the pavement or did you get the tires muddy?? I know here at the lake of the Ozarks you can not do any thing with out getting muddy right now

Rich, I had a little of everything. Tires will need a clean later but was mostly on gravel or chip seal county roads. Just nice to get out as I like to give them a good exercise about mid winter as they aren't used much this time of the year. Hope things are getting warmer up your way as well but we were in Jeff City yesterday and I was surprised that snow was still around up along US 63. Take care, stay warm and maybe only about 6 more weeks of this stuff left, Hal.

I was collecting a few soil samples to send to NRCS from my little farm south of Fulton Sunday. The ground was still frozen from about 3 inches below grade to 7 inches. I had to cut down a little tree and make a club to get the probe down. Bet its all mud now.

(quoted from post at 20:09:25 01/19/10) I was collecting a few soil samples to send to NRCS from my little farm south of Fulton Sunday. I have a hydraulic soil probe I use for work and it wouldn't go in the ground this am. I have heard from all of our accounts that want me to do soil testing that there is NO frost in the ground here (WI) Then I talked to a neighbor who dug in a water line and he said there is about thirty inches. I think I will take the neighbors number as a little more honest...He did say it was kind of a rotton frost.

Talked to a person at church who is in the excavation business (water & sewer lines, etc.) and he said in our area the frozen layer starts at 3" and goes down to around 10". He indicated it is pretty solid between those levels. The surface is quite soft and muddy but I was able to fill the calf creep feeders yesterday with a small pick-up. I know we are certainly better off then you folks up north but we have had the coldest temperatures in our region in over 10 years with several days below 0 F.

Ya, but that below zero stuff cuts down on some of the riff-raff...and HEY, thanks a bunch for sharing some pictures w/us folks!!!

Hi Hal, I have a cub that I have not been able to get started since the week before Christmas and have spent a lot of time getting cold fingers working on the rascal. Had spark and gas but no go. Yesterday it fired up right off. Took it on a good ride then let it run for an hour just to charge it up good. Sure was fun. Not as big as your 9 speed M though and a little rougher ride.

Paul, Nice you see your post. As I recall that Cub is a tractor your wife wanted? Does she do anything with it like some mowing around the estate? Wish we could have gotten together at the Steam Show last September. Take care and give a shout sometime, Hal.
