transmission oil in 1466????

Bought me a new 1466 yesterday and got it home this afternoon. Bought it from a estate, owners kidds selling his equipment. I know I needed another tractor but I just can't help myself when it comes to IH tractors. It has 20hrs on overhaul, engine. Starts ,runs, handles real good. Black strip. Got to checking things out more this afternoon and when I pulled the dipstick out of the transmission, I am almost sure it has 80/90 gear oil in it instead of trans/hyd fluid. Hyds all work. I am going to change the fluid but does anyone think that it might have harmed anything and is it alright to put the correst fluid in it after running gear oil in it? Also, it does not have a TA. Never had one.

I think i would put Hytran into it .Thats whats recomended in there ,i dont know how it worked with gear oil. Maybe it hasnt been in there very long. Erik..

congratulations, anyway you can contact the previous owner and ask what was going on with the oil? So no TA, does that mean you have 8 forward and 4 reverse or is it a different lay out altogether? Those blackstripes are cool, a guy down the way has a 1566 that he plows with and its great to see it out working in the spring.

If its gear oil your going to have to change the oil a couple times to get it all out of the systems. It wont hurt anything but gear oil does not make very good hydraulic oil. If you have hydraulic systems on your implements its going to goober them up and if you hook the implements to other tractors your going to contaminate the hydraulic systems on them to. If its gear oil you got a job ahead of you, good luck.

The previous owner passed away and his son and daughter are selling his equipment. They don't know anything about any of the mantiance and barely know what a tractor is. Yes it is a 8 foward and 4 reverse. They did have the receipts on the engine rebuild. It had duals and I am guessing he pulled a 20ft disc with it because there was one sitting out there.
