856 arrives

I just drove my new 856 home, and that was a little chilly, put it right in the shop to clean it up and mount the monitor for planting. Anything I should know before April?

You should know that if ever you feel the need to give it away, I get first dibs.

Other than checking the condition and levels of the various fluids, I don't think there is anything else you need to do except for using it and enjoying it.

ok, I'll make you a deal, if I ever feel the need to give it away its yours. We'll go through it this afternoon and get it full of everything and see how it does for us. It was in use on a farm up through soybean harvest pulling wagons. The seller is 79 and says for the rest of his farming days he no longer needs to ever be too cold or too hot so its all cabs for him, hes a great guy.

If you have adequate finances, wouldn't hurt to change out the Hy-Tran & filter---unless you know it has been serviced recently. We had an 856 & it used a quart to a quart & a half of engine oil a day if you worked it. If you left the oil at the add level, it wouldn't use any. Never thought it was worth the risk. The folks who got it after us say it still is like that---they run it low on oil.

I had an 856 for 9 years, once. People always told me the 856 was the best tractor IH ever built.

In 9 years, all I ever did was normal maintenance. Only problem I had was one time the oil pressure light came on. Turned out the insulation had rubbed off the wire to the sender and grounded the light.

I agree, though, if you can't verify it being done recently, change the HyTran fluid and filter.
