Farmall C - need education...

I"m reading in my Farmall Tractor History book, because I saw a really sweet Super C on Youtube, about the C and it"s place in the Farmall lineup. The book mentions that the difference between the A and B, and the C is that the C has a steel rail frame much like the H and M, whereas the A and B relied on the drivetrain for structure. I"ve searched all the C and Super C pics I can find, and I can"t see this type of rail frame, unless it is somehow integral to the drivetrain. Can someone set me straight?

The H and M have the steel frames. The A B C use the Torque tube and the engine block as the frame. They are pretty tough!

Just another book someone has written sith bad info as the C didnt have any frame rails. Someof the books about tractors need to be taken with a grin of salt even the pics arent corrrct with bad specs also.Even yrs built an prodiction numbers.Ex this sitedoesent list the A and B production in 47 correct.

No frame rails on C/SC but prehaps the book was referring to the fact that the A & B were offset and used drop housings on rear axles, whereas the C/SC were centered like the H & M and had straight rear axles like the H & M to allow for easy adjusting of rear tread width.

No frame rails on the C or SuperC. Those would be on the H and M series. The C/SC use the crankcase and torque tube as their own frame, just like the As and Bs. The differences from a B to a C, would be moving teh seat from the offset to being centered atop the transmission and differential, and the final drive (bull pinions and gears) being contained in the tranny case instead of the drop-style final drives used on the As and Bs. From a C to an H or M, The C lacks the frame rails, and has the steering shaft offset to the left a little so that it runs forward along the side of the chassis instead of being centered and running straight forward over the top of the motor to the front bolster as on the H and M.

I have that book, never read about the C. That is not just a misprint but a big blunder caused by lack of knowledge about the tractor. He actually takes parts of two paragraphs to explain something that doesn't exist on the C. Discussion of the Touch Control system is incomplete also, plus ??.

I bought that book at a shop in McGregor, Iowa a few weeks after I had purchased my "52 Super C. I was amazed to see that mistake in print. Since then I"ve learned to trust my eyes and personal experience first. It"s also amazing how many "experts" come out to the shows.

"The Farmall Letter Series" book by Guy Fay is a good reference book for the info you are requesting. In addition to the offset seat, the C allowed for rear wheel tread adjustment where the A and B did not. I believe the B was a trycicle version of the A and was available as a wide and narrow tread version before the adjustable tread of the C.
