crank starting mechanism on M

Hey guys...gotta super M home last night and the crank mechanism was stuck as always......so after we sprayed pb blaster on it, I tapped it with a hammer and we freed it up....got everything working right and oiled up good and put the crank on....wouldn t work...seems I bumped it too hard with the hammer and resulted in a broken pin in the mechanism. Not the one on the outside but this one came out of the cup part that goes over the crank....how does this come apart and where can I find new parts for it?

Remove the large external c-clip, slide the sheet metal sleeve toward the engine, and you will see the pin.

Everything will be rusty so it is not an easy job. This is compounded by the fat that you may be working on your back in a space that is not well lit. Think about compressing the spring with tie-wraps to make the job easier.

Did all the stuff come off the "top" or "bottom" side of the shaft in your picture? I never had mine apart, but I would like to make them work. My H is the only thing that has a working crank right now.

Yeah, the orientation and focus of that picture is a little confusing. It confused me too on my previous post.

The tin sleeve moves away from the engine and will reveal the broken pin. In other words the sleeve has to move down in the picture but can't until the C-clip is removed.

That bolster came from my junk pile. On another tractor, I wanted to see if I could push the barrel that contacts the crankshaft back far enough to allow the installation of a two groove pulley on crankshaft without removing the bolster.
It did.
