Amazing what you'll find in a fence row

Went down to one of the little local dairy's to deliver some hay this morning. Noticed the familliar front end of a M model farmall. Pretty soon I see the exhaust is stickin up on the right side. I'll be darned, MD. Get done shuffling hay in the barn around-- saunter on over there for a closer look. I"LL BE DAMNED! There's the handle stickin up for the live PTO! Sure enough, SMDTA. No hood, no cap on the exhaust. Probly a basket case. The boss was hollerin to get back to the ranch, so couldn't investigate further. Doubt it's goin anywhere though. Will hafta sneak over there next week and stick a can over the muffler at least, maybe chat up the farmer, see what the scoop on 'er is...

Like I need another project...

Interestiing parallel here in North Alabama.
About a year ago I spotted a Louisville SM in a fence row here. #5084XX AJ. I checked it out and learned it had amazingly nice tires, excellent rims, Behlen power steering and a remote two-way valve. It is also a "basket case". Has been sitting in the weather so long the muffler had rusted through and fallen off. I came back the next day and crammed a can down over the exhaust pipe. As I stated, that was a year ago - at least.
Long story short..... I bought it last week. More than I really wanted to pay, but..... Block looks good, from the outside at least, and inside of gas thank is beautiful. I could part it out and make $, but I am going to try to place it in the hands of an individual who will restore it rather than part it or scrap it.

Well, duh! But basket cases can be fun projects spread over a few years and sure be satisfying to own when it's done.

Several years ago, when I was in a service call, I came across a F-20 siting it a fence row. Talked to the farmer who owned it and found that it had been sitting in the came spot for the last 35 years, the last 30 as a corner post. It has a pto extension, and electric start. It has the brackets for a rear cultivator but the cultivator is long gone. I stop in occasionaly to see if it would be for sale, found out that it almost went to the salvage yard when scrap steel was so high. I guess I need to increase my efforts to get it bought.

Ben, where in Oregon are you located - not that I have any interest in this tractor but Oregon is just one of my most favorite places. I was an aircraft engineer in the Seattle area for Boeing for almost 40 years and spent the majority of my vacations in Oregon. Tried to retire there but the restrictions for living in the country in desireable places made it just too difficult and I wasn't interested in a high rise in Portland. So I retired back to the Missouri farm I grew up on as a kid which is 400 acres and been doing the feeder calf and hay thing since retiring.
Used to see a very nice Farmall M at a little truck vegetable farm down near Walterville on the McKenzie River just east of Springfield. I think they used it to take folks to the pick your own areas. Oregon is certainly a very nice place to visit and explore. My email is open and would be interested in "chatting" with you if you desire. Hal.

Mike, there are several North of you in my area. The same old story. They plan to fix them some day or it belonged to dad and it's not for sale.
