560 Tach cable issues

Ordered new tach cable. Pulled tach gear from distributor, cleaned it up, greased it back up and reinstalled. Connected to tach, set needle at 0 before attaching to distributor, fired 'er up, and nothing???

Tach gear spins, tach cable spins on tach end when connected to distributor. Tach is free and spins ok. Am I missing something simple?

when u spin the tach by hand does the needle move ahead. if not i would say the tach needs repair.

how does it look where the cable fits in the tach end , is it square and meshes good. it could be slipping by being rounded off.

Inner cable has slid down away from the tach? A lot of cables have a little disk on one end to act as a thrust washer that keeps gravity from pulling it downhill into the flex tube. Just an idea. I ran into that problem once. Jim
