disc for 674?

I have a 674 diesel, with a loader. I am needing to work about 25 acres of wheat ground, plus smooth some areas the pigs root up in the pasture.
What size disc or harrow can I use with this tractor? Are there any other things I should look for (besides general condition)I have never used a disc before. Also, can I disc without taking the loader off? I know I may get less fuel efficiency, but is it bad for the tractor?

Disk depends on how good the plates are, maybe 10-12 footer will be fine. Check the diameter of the blades, severely worn ones will not actually do anything and will pull real easy compared to new plates on the same disk.

Most used disks with worn out plates go cheap...might be ok in plowed ground that you only want to level up some, but not so much for any jobs needing an aggressive cut.

I'd take the loader off, easier on front end and with a 2wd 674 less act to have the front end sink in and get stuck if on wet ground.

If you have a 2250 loader on the 674 it would only take a few minutes to take it off, if you don't have a QA loader you might get away with disking with the loader, you might be able to just drop the bucket and leave the arms on the tractor. We do not do any tillage with the loader on our 2wd, fall or spring, you just end up stuck....

I wouldnt go any bigger than a 10ft disc or 32 plates at 7 inches. If you get one with worn out blades it might be cheap but it will cost at least 30 dollars a blade times 32 is almost 1000 dollars and then you have 8 bearings at 30 to 40 dollars each well you get the picture ,its some times better to find one in good shape and pay a little more. As far as the loader i would take it off doesnt take that long and its a lot easyer on the tractor. Erik..

Hi, my brother has a 684 and uses a 10ft IH disk.
The 684 pulls it easily in 4th Low.
If you are looking at a one-way disk then it takes a lot more traction and HP. Neighbour has a 85HP 4WD CIH and an 8ft Bush Hog one-way and he says that is all he can pull in sod.

Re loader, take the bucket off as a minimum.
