790 PTO ,, 1486 IH ??

Hello, I have a 1486 IH. I just bought a 71" tiller that has a 790PTO. Is it possable to put a 790 PTO shaft on the 1486? I have to replace the 540 shaft anyway. Anyone know where I can get these pto shafts for the 1486?

I have never heard of a 790 RPM PTO. Most 1486's came with a two shaft PTO unit. The bottom one is 540 RPM and the top is 1000 RPM. If the tractor just has one PTO shaft it would be a 21 spline 1000 RPM shaft. Most likely your tiller has the 1000 RPM shaft.

Well, technically no 1486's came with two shaft PTO units. They were available from the factory with only a 1000 RPM PTO.

It was the general practice at the dealership I worked at to order the 1466/1468/1486 tractors without PTO units. We then installed the dual speed units for 1066/1086 tractors before they were delivered to the customers.
