Farmall M won't start?

I was driving my M down a rough rock road and then it quit?. I have no idea what is wrong, It's getting plenty of fuel and it has spark.
My first guess was that something got knocked loose but I can't find any thing, I even took apart the carburetor and cleaned every thing, but yet still no luck.

If it has spark and fuel it should run. Spark where? at the plugs? All 4 of them? Keep troubleshooting. I don't know how fast you were driving or how rough the road but Ms are pretty tough.
 
Remove one of your plugs and see if it's wet. If it isn't squirt a little fresh gas on top of the piston then reinstall the plug and try to start the engine. If the engine fires you're not getting gas to the engine. Hal
 
FMB, If you got spark to plugs. Check fuel flow rust in fuel line after shaking it up.
How cold is it where you are Ice in fuel line from water. oldiron29
 
I'll test the spark again in the morning.
It's been really cold, our highs have been around 10 and with the wind it feels like -20.
The tractor quit before the cold weather, so I don't think it's ice in the lines.
The road was really rough, (the county put 3 inch rock on the road) I was running in high gear.

Do you have an external resistor on the coil? I have had those break and leave me dead. Sometimes they will start but when you release the key it will die.

Another thing to look at if you had some rust shake loose in the tank and cover the hole.

Had a similar thing happen to me a few years back. I was going down the road and my "M" quit on me. Ending up pulling it home. Later discovered that the on/off switch had a dead spot.
 
Loose connections will show up sometimes when tractor is driven over rough terrain. Could even be that the float got hung up in the carb. That doesn't explain why it won't start now, though. Like the others have noted---do some basic troubleshooting to locate/pinpoint the trouble--fuel or electrical.
 
Oh well, That's your problem then. Even if everything is just right you have to know what you are doing to make an M run at those temps. Wait til it warms up.
 
You need to pull off one of your plug wires and see if it has fire from the plug wire while a helper makes an attempt to start the engine. Make sure the ignition switch is in the on position. If there's no fire remove the cap and have someone bump over the engine using the starter and you look at the rotor to see if its rotating. If it's rotating ok use some 320 wet or dry and clean the points then reinstall the cap & try another start attempt.

If there's still no fire from the plug wire use a test lite or a volt meter set on DC volts and with the points open & the ignition switch on check for battery voltage on both small terminals
on your coil if you have a distributor. If there's no voltage you need to check your ignition switch. With the switch in the on position see if there's voltage at the terminal that feeds your coil. If there's voltage there you have a broken wire somewhere between your switch & Coil. Just install a new wire.

If there's no voltage on that terminal check the terminal that feeds voltage to your switch. If you have voltage to the switch and none out you have a bad switch. Hal
PS: If there's no voltage to your switch replace the wire that feeds battery voltage to it. Check the connections they may be loose.
 
I found out today that it has spark at the plugs and if I dump gas straight into the cylinder it will fire. What do I do now?

If it fires with a small amount of gas in a cylinder, Yuo probably aren't getting gas to the carb. If you have a drain plug on the bottom of the carb, remove it & check for fuel flow.
Hal will probably come on with his check for intake vacuum at the carb.
