Hello,
I just "broke in" to the IH seen, I bought a 1466 Turbo, with factory cab and nice loader. The tractor seems in VERY nice, way above average condition. Was only used to haul hay bales. Can anyone give me some tips on using this tractor, any good "do's and dont's"? This is the first IH I personally owned, my only other experience was a old H we had when I was growing up. It doesn't have an operators manual and I'm having trouble finding one. ANY info would be greatly appreciated! I really like this tractor and want to keep it in it's pristine condition. Thank you in advance for your help and kindness. I am proud to be a "new" member of the IH scene.

You can probably get a manual from your caseih dealer or here on YT. Only one question, what took you so long to finally get an IH tractor lol. Erik..

Thanks Erik, I don't know that I have a good answer, I own an Oliver 1850 diesel also, and had some of those "yellow and green" machines everyone seems to think is worth their weight in gold! But I have never been one to think that only ONE maker put out good tractors, EVERY brand has their good and bad tractors, INCLUDING John Deere! I LOVE this 1466, I don't understand why it seems to be so "under-rated", it seems like everyone likes the 1206, and lower models better. I need the horsepower and for the money this tractor is incredible! The T/A works great it's got plenty of power and it's in PRISTENE condition, I have to admit I might even like it more than my Oliver. Which I didn't think possible. Anyway, I hope to have this tractor for a LONG time and it's a BEAST! Thanks again Erik. Guess it just took me this long to find the right one.

Thanks Bob, I appreciate that! I will give it a try now. I really love this tractor, I wish I could figure out how to post a pic of it, but I can't seem to figure it out. I'm a computer DUMMY! Thanks again Bob. Hope you're managing to keep warm.
Best wishes,
Jeff

Hey a picture would be nice. I cant seem to get a picture on here either but i can easly get it on the photo spot light on YT its just when you log on to this site. Or you could email one to me. I prefer the 66 or 86 series tractors also mostly because i was raised with them. I have a 686 ,656 ,2 140s and a cub and they are all from the 70s. Thanks Erik..

I have never really liked the cab forward style of the 86 series tractors. You can't beat the 06 paint scheme. It looks very sharp. They were also IH's break into the "big" tractors so they are more collectible.
I would love a 1466 open station if it would only fit in my shed!

I've been on Red equipment for around 55 years - would have been longer, but Mom said "No". My 806 is still going strong.

But in all fairness, your 1850 is a great tractor with a lot of tradition.

Agman - Congrats on the new tractor. I too have a 1466 and truly love that machine.

Only suggestion I have, other than good maintenance, is with using the TA. You should always move from direct to low (forward position to rear) or vice versa in 1 quick movement - - do not stop mid way. Also, don't use the TA as a brake. For example, if you are in direct and want to slow the tractor down w/o load, do not pull the TA into low...use the brakes.

The TAs on these machines can last a VERY long time if they are used correctly. Good way to lose the low side of the TA is to be hauling something down the road (let's say a silage wagon) and then decide to pull the TA from direct to low as a method to slow the tractor down.

Can you send pics of your machine?

You should be able to get a owners manual from a CIH dealer. One other place to get owners manuals is off EBAY. I have bought several manuals off there. I have a 1466 also and I love mine. I like it better than the 1486. Rides much better. They do have lots of POWER.

Thanks for all that GREAT info. I have been trying to figure out how to "upload" a picture on here, but I'm a "computer DUMMY!" and can't seem to figure it out. If I have an email address I can send pics of it. Thanks again for all the great info. I am VERY proud to be a "new" member of the IH scene, you all have been a BIG help and I really appreciate it! God bless and thank you all.

Thanks Larry, I have been trying to find one on ebay, but so far I have found everything BUT one for a 1466 Turbo, OR Hydro, for that matter. Everything is for 86 series, or 1206 and smaller. I have found one a Binder nnalert (thank you Bob), I was a bit surprised to find that what manual you get depends on the serial number though. There is a split, I guess they must have changed enough things to warrant 2 different operator manuals for the 1466. I am trying to investigate this further and find out what the differences are. I'm sure someone on here probably knows the answer already. IF I can figure it out I will post a pic of my "BEAST". I must say I am VERY proud of this tractor and plan to own it till I "check out", which will probably be before this tractor would ever quit. Thanks again guys I sure appreciate all your kindness. I am hoping to find a IH club to join, I'm in north central Missouri, don't know if there is one around here or not. God bless all!

Thanks Bob O2 Martin,
I appreciate that, I must admit they are BOTH awesome tractors, I really am proud of both of them. I wouldn't want to part with EITHER one. And I would stack either of them up against a JD or any other brand anyday. God bless and keep warm.
Best wishes,
Jeff

IH changed the look of the Operators Manual during the production of the 66 series tractors. Later tractors ran 200 RPM faster than the first ones. If there were any other changes in the manual the later one provably covers everything.
