Hello again everyone, i have a 42 M with a 8060 head and 400/450 3 rib manifold...what kinda HP am i looking at now? maybe 45 with the old cast pistons and 50 plus with fire craters? Am i about right on these figures?

Most HP increase occurs with larger diameter pistons and sleeves, so it depends on what is in the engine at present. The manifold won't add much HP.

thank you very much, havn"t gotten it tore down all the way for inspection so we"ll see..this tractor just seemed to have a lot more ummph than a stock m.

Ted, Also depending on the ammount of slack in the governor. IE pin wear, out of adjustment, will have an effect on the HP too. Just don't assume the governor is in top shape, check it out before to long. 50 is very do able IMO. I went through a 50 model M, put a Super KIt in it a long time ago and didn't throughly check out the governor after the rebuild with simular pistons as you spoke of, I had 42 hp and couldn't get the last 50 RPMs out of the motor.
Later,
John A.
