rear wheel question, for a tractor dummy!!!

hey guy's i'm looking at an International 2500a tractor which is 2wd about 4100 lbs, mid 70s model, but it doesn't have the tradional larger rimmed 28 inch agri type wheels and rubber on the rears, it has a much smaller maybe say 20 in rim with really fat/wide and tall turf type tires on it, and the rims also look kinda deep dish...what are these called and do they have any major disadvantages in snow, or up snowey grades?

In snow, you don't need floatation; you need bite! Plan on a set of chains and a big weight block if you are using turf type tires!

Your tractor was probably a mowing machine in a previous life.

Wide turf tires are not ideal for snow, but with weight and chains it should work just fine for plowing a driveway. If you're bombing through deep snow going after firewood or something, you might want to consider finding ag tires for the rear.

thanks guy's i'm starting to get the picture, i'm a diesel truck mechanic but know nothing about tractors. thanks again!!

There is an upside to those tires! When you put the chains on you should get better bite bc there is more tire behind the chain. What I am saying is chain with rubber directly behind it is better than chain with air behind it. Plus, if you get a belly mower for it you shouldn't tear up the lawn!
In the garden tractor world the preferred snow setup is turfs with two link chains. These chains have cross bars every two links insted of the typical four. Not sure about tractor tires spacing, but the more cross bars the better. Smoother ride and more traction.
