44' M stepped pistons

Hi Guys, I posted this on pulling form But thought I would also ask here. I have pulled down a stuck 1944 farmall M serial# 80993. The head was trash so I found a recent rebuilt #8060 head. It has longer valves around 6" mabe a little less, the head I had was 5 9/16 valves. I am looking at yesterdays sleeve and piston kit by Tisco Part #BIFH1155A witch is for early M with stepped pistons. Will I have problems with this head or with pistons hitting valves? Or should I stick to flat top pistons? Thanks For any help before I order

i would use a kit for the later Ms. The 8060 head was used on later M's and some Super Ms. Should not have a problem with clearance then.

AZ, I looked at both heads and can't see any difference in the area milled out for the piston. oldiron29

depends on how much of a dome there is on the piston. I am sorry im not able to tell you the exact numbers. With the longer valves used in the 8060 head it mayyybe possible to hit the piston. I would say without knowing how much of a step head it is then you wont know. HOwever that being said 'most' likly the dome is not that large enough that it would hit, yet i would want to make sure before ordeing.

if the dome is 3/4" then you should be all set to go. I would say that if it was closer to 7/8 or 1" then you may have a clearance problem.

the only difference between the early and late kit is the bearings. m+w used to make pistons with a inch tall dome for lp conversions so any piston you can buy today for your m will fit with no clearance problems. i could sell you a better quality kit for a lot less money than this site wants for their tisco importrd stuff.

A tall fire crater has a shorter dome than the M&W,BUT the main deck height of the M W is shorter than the Fire Crater is you hold the pistons side by side,so its really 6 of one and a half a dozen of the other
