Who makes a good three point hitch for a Farmall 140?

Richard why would you want a three point hitch on a 140? You can make your own out of cultivator parts if you really want that. I have done it on a super C. A fast hitch works real good also. Erik..

The Worksaver hitch works ok. However, be aware. You have no draft control. The lift capacity is only around 500 lbs. And the lifting range is limited. The top link is short and this limits the lift range and also makes implements tilt when you may not want them to. I would not attempt to use a plow. A carry all, light cultivator, small disk, things like that will work OK. The PTO is offset, so with a bush hog, there could be interference problems with the PTO shaft. You also must use a cross bar in the lift for drawbar work as when the 3 point is on there, the drawbar is off. The sway brace is somewhat cumbersome. I successfully used a post hole auger, but the auger hitch must have an adjustable top link bar to shorten it up so you can lift the auger high enough. The auger did work good though because you have down pressure. Being aware of all this, the 3 point can be quite useful on the 140 but you must know the limitations and learn to live with them.

This 140 does not have a fast hitch on it. I would like to use a planter on the tractor. Is there a better way to mount one on it?

Naw, the worksaver is probably the best way to go. As Haas points out very well, they do have their limitations, but they work "okay" and are the best out there. I find the anti-sway brace to be the most annoying feature. It needs a quick disconnect for changing implements.
I have two Worksavers - one on my Super A for a finish mower; no problems with pto shaft angle - and another on my 140 for my Covington 1-row planter. Bought both used. First one I bought in 2007 for $275. Second one I bought this year for $200. Both in nice shape.
If your planter is a Covington (or like a Covington) you will need a very short toplink. Hope this information helps.

What kind of a planter Richard? Are you talking a seeder or a planter to plant plants? Some times you can hook a seeder under the belly on the front cultivator frames but a planter will have to go on the back. The 140 wont lift to much in the back maybe 500 pounds. Erik..

I would like to hook up something I can plant seeds with. I didn't think I would find anything made for a Farmall so I thought it would have to go on the back somehow.

Well do you know what kind of seeder it is, i think it can be made to fit under the belly of the 140. You might be able to find a picture of a mounted seeder here on YT under implements if you tipe in mounted IH seeder. Erik..

Checked out implement photos for mounted IH seeder and didn't find anything. Is there another place I should be looking?

thanks

I know there is a front mounted corn planter for the farmall tractors and you can plant some vegtables with it,but i dont know what model number it is. I tried last night to find one but i didnt get to far. Wengers of myerstown has a lot of old farmall stuff but the web site didnt work last night, you can try that if you want. I have a sort of three point hook up i will try to take a picture of it and email you its one i made. Erik..

Jim, I certainly enjoy seeing your responses to the many questions posted on this forum. I also enjoy your articles in Red Power as well. You certainly have a depth of knowledge and a willingness to post when you feel you have useful information to share. Thanks for being such a great resource to us and helpful to the less informed. Take care and thank you for being here, Hal.

I have a farmall 100 with a 3 point hitch that I bought from link_disallowed at "www.external_link". It works good with my 3 point Burch Model 102 Planter. I also have it so I can switch back to my rear cultivators in about 3 minutes with out removing any of the frame brackets. But I am in the process of building a rear 3 point cultivator for it that still uses the 1 3/8" square stock to mount my sweeps on.

Hal,
Thanks for your comments. I try to balance between being helpful and not letting this swallow up all my time. Still seems to use up a lot of it. :)

I try to put at least one article into each issue of Red Power. Sometimes the hard part is coming up with a subject.
