Trottle Linkage 53 Super H

I had rebuilt a 53 Super H and when it came to reinstallment of the trottle Linkage we had problems. The trottle will only pull back half way. With the engine running, it sounds like it is really wound tight(for lack of a better term) when the trottle lever is pulled back. I have checked out other H's and Super's and we have everything back in place the way it is supposed to be. I have pulled off the cover on the govennor and the linkage in there seems to be like to others that I have looked at. Could the linkage that goes into the carb not be alligned properly or timed correctly? Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

It has to be something in the linkage. Possibly you have the center piece with the 2 springs installed backwards? If the governor to carburetor linkage was wrong. ie; the tang not in the slot, you would basically have NO throttle control and the engine would go wide open regardless of where the throttle lever was set.

I looked at those also on the other tractors and it apprears that mine are installed correctly. However when you say installed backwards, would that not allow the spring tension to work correctly!

I did that on my SMTA. You WILL know!

Mine does the same thing. I may have mine in the wrong hole as my stamped throttle has two holes.

I am going throught the same issue now. In my case I have good throttle control and response is good,it is just not in time with the square tooth throttle control on the steering column. Basically I had to pull the lever towards me about 1" past the slots to get full power and when I went for low throttle I still had about an inch. The 1st adjustment I did was on the mechanism that is just above and next to the exhaust manifold. That got me closer. The next adjustment was in the top of the governor. Remove the small plate that has the breather tube going to it. There is a cotter key and pin that has to be removed. That connects the governor to the shaft that goes to the carb. Loosen the set screw and adjust the yoke until you have it at the appropriate location. Also make sure that all the linkage is greased up and not binding. I had that issue early on. Hope that helps.

Like others have said, make sure the linkage on top of cyl head is installed correctly. Easy to get it bassakwards. If that checks out, don't over look a bent steering post, this happens quite frequently. I have also seen where someone has welded in an extra chunk in linkage to gain full throttle with worn out parts.
