IH Refrigerators

Hello everyone. I have my parent's 1950 IH fridge in my basement. Runs like a champ. Needs a gasket badly. I know it's a long shot, but anyone have an idea? I've tried ebay, but came up empty.

We still have a working IH fridge the folks bought in 1951. I remember it being delivered.

I'm sure you'll be as surprised as anyone if you find the part you need. Maybe you can make it.

Purchase a generic gasket and install. You may need to use some Gorilla Glue to connect extra pieces.

I need a handle. Mine is cracked and ready to break. I can't believe the motor is still going after all of these years. They did not know about making things to break so they could sell more.

Might want to try antique appliances dot com. They advertise replacement door gaskets. Hope this might help.

I believe Whirlpool bought the refrigeration line from IH. My brother thought they might still have gaskets available. Check with your Whirlpool dealer.

RHS supply out of Texas or Case Parts has three locations, St. Louis, LA, & Seatle. All have 800 numbers and can custom make any gasket, kind of pricey. They also sell many diferent styles of gasket material & the glue to make your own.

Once you find the solution to your door gasket please post back as I would certainly like to know what is the outcome. I would love to have one of those IH frig's up in my Farmall shed but have always wondered about replacement stuff like the gasket and door handles being available at this time. My grandparents had both a freezer and refrig when I was a kid in the late 1940's and early 50's. Thanks and good luck in your part hunt, Hal.

My folks had an IH chest type freezer for years, I believe bought in about 48 or '49. They sold the farm and got it back a few years later (after the buyer faulted on the land contract several times) and when they moved it back to the farm, it stopped working. It was still in a corner of the barn when Mom sold again years later. I checked when we moved her and there were no bodies in it  .

I also have a 49 fridge, got a new handle for it a few years ago, but now I need the bracket that holds the handle. I has the rectangular 3 1/2 x 5 1/2 handle. Anyone with a wrecked fridge can sell me one. E mail open. Thanks...Darald

When we bought my husbands Grandparents farm there was a working IH chest freezer in the basement. We moved it out into the garage when we remodeled and it still works today. We are thinking about getting a new freezer but hate to throw this antique away. Any suggestions??
