Who would of thunk

Finally got to my 706 engine this weekend I had bought the kit about 4years ago.Thought I would just get some .002 over bearings, as I wasn't getting crank done. Well started in and was going good, got mains in, checked clearance, .002, real nice. Made a sleeve pulling puck, worked great, sleeves in and out in no time. Came time to put pistons in, checked the clearance, not enough. Who would of thought that .002 over bearings on the rods would not work. Since the bearings are 4 years old, chances of exchanging them is slight. So time to order new bearings......hoping to have it ready to fire in a couple weeks.

been in your situation too many times to remember and dont wanna remember them all. I hope it all comes out OK for ya!

dont even know why they make such a size as i have never seen it work.once you have a worn crank its time to turn it not just put undersize brgs in due to the fact the crank wears in an egg shape. and have never seen a crank turned just .002

I've still got thre of the four new shocks I bought for my Porsche 356 Series II (predates the 356A) which I had about two years and sold in about 1977.

They were expensive and I can't just throw them away...

With ebay and craigslist and all the other online selling venues you should be able to get rid of any of that stuff pretty easy. With the shocks you might be able to make some money on the deal.

I never had much use for the .002 bearings . In fact, I have replaced them with std bearings a couple of times to get correct clearance. Too tight is just as bad as too loose. Oil throw off from rods is what lubes the cylinders and clearances must be in proper balance. Also, the throw off for lubrication is why you never want to let an engine sit at low idle for extended periods of time. Between the rich idle mixture and poor lube from bottom it will sure shorten an engines cyl life.

speakin of idling, thats the worst thing for an engine- extended idling that is.the valve train catches the most wear, camshaft lobes, lifters and rockers.even pushrod ends wear.
