b450 diesel

Somewhere in the neighborhood of 500 units is my understanding and they were only allotted to three states to be sold in Arkansas, Mississippi and Texas.

My father said that a "boatload" were sent from England to the Memphis Territory dealers.

The Harvester executives told them they were coming and how many do you want.

Did not go over very well, no lugging power.

There was a post on a B450 a little ways back that I commented on where I had said that back in the mid 1970's I owned a B450 and a SMD at the very same time. The B450 would walk away from the SMD and they were suppose to have the same hp. I would bet that the B450 pull just as much as a 560 diesel which also had owned at one time. The B450 was geared higher than the SMD. I pulled a John Deere 3-16 plow with both the SMD & B450 and the 450 would walk away from the M.

The Farmall B-450 had as much or more lugging power than a 560 and would pull right along with the 560. The B-450 did not sell in large numbers because it was "British" and did not have the modern features or looks of the 560. "If" it had of had power steering and IPTO, and "if" it was USA built, it would have sold many more, IMHO. In the Delta at the time, most farmers still had not accepted the idea of imports in tractors, trucks, or cars.
