What kind of setup is this on a Farmall C? with Picts

I have had this tractor for about a year and a half but I never knew what kind of setup this is. What can I attach to my tractor with this setup? If any one could identify this that would be great.

I eventually would like to put a blade on the back of the tractor, what would I need to do so?

I've never seen one of those before maybe a lift for a mounted plow or other sort of implement. Most of the plow lifts come off of the lift all setup with a rod that runs back across the axle next to the seat. Is that a one way cylinder? power up gravity down?

I am not quit sure. I know I could take a bolt out at the bottom of the cylinder and then it could just hang there but I never have. Guy I bought it from said that you could put a post hole digger on it but I dont know. Just not sure.

my *guess* is that the cylinder is too long for the original design. you should have a standard 8 inch stroke cylinder, and it should attach to the arm nearer the center, with the outer arm being the lift arm for whatever attatchment.

other than the specific implement it was designed for, you could modify it to lift a few basic tools that also would need modification or *maybe* as a crude 3pt lift.

It was pretty obviously designed (probably home-fabbed by a clever sort of fellow) for a specific use. Darned sure not adaptable to many applications, without being similarly clever.

With the throw of that cylinder on that top link, it might well have been suited to put down pressure as well as lift on an axle-mounted post-hole digger.

Interesting . . .

Pretty obvious it's a single acting cylinder, and it appears the shaft is bent to the left of the left frame support, or is that just the angle we see? If it was for a post hole digger, it may have been part of a package from that manufacturer.

Could be something as simple as fabbed up rig to lift logs, so they didn't drag on the ground when pulling 'em out. Might never find out what its "real" purpose was. Lack of finances and a few beers can create some pretty ingenious contraptions...
