Looks just like the neck on my '53. A little less engine "surgery" than mine. I did a total rebuild, $$$$!! Isn't anything like em though.

Andrew, looks like a regular diesel neck in the picture. I completly mistook what you had, since some have a extension about the length you said in the original post on above the neck you have. Will try to post a picture later. Apologize to you and other posters for the mess up.

Andrew: That is interesting information. Not that I plan on ever owning a diesel M, but at least I can quickly recognize a tank for one, now. Thanks for sharing.

I also have a '53 SMD that looks remarkably similar to that. It's in slightly worse shape but it's torn down to almost exactly the same point. I had a cracked head and have since discovered a cracked liner and so it's waiting for a full rebuild. Sam

Thanks for sharing. My MD is torn down also, but I've removed the fuel tanks, air cleaner, radiator, brakes, steering, and seat for a repaint. Head looked fine, just needed valve grinding and guides.

My 1947 MD has an extended filler neck that looks just like that. I've really never looked in there to see if it has the locking tabs down there like the regular M tanks. I'll take a look tomorrow and see if it does.
