Did IH ever make 4 wheel drive for M farmall, I was told by a fella that they did. Got photos?

Use the search function at the top of the page. Type in "Elwood". Lots of info and pictures. It is mostly about an International 660D w/Elwood. That conversion will swap with minimal changes to any M sized tractor ftom 1939 to 1961.

If you have any questions after reading all those threads, I will follow up with anwsers.

what gear did the farmall have to be in to engage the front axle ,it is pulling from the belt take off isn't it ? or how did they work it ?

If I remember correctly the front axle was drive off the 4/5th slider gear through the top of the tranny where the belt pulley attachment would be. I believe it worked in reverse, 1, 2 & 3.

Nebraska Kirk is right. It runs off 4th/5th slider on mainshaft. It will run in all gears but 4th. That slider gear is out of position when slid back to engage the transmission countershaft. Works in TA too.

Goto my previous posts to see alot more pictures including internal shots of the transfer case.

The Elwood conversion adds about $10,000 to the value of any M thruogh 660 it is installed on.

Wardner, I have been jelous of you since I first saw that Elwood. Would you sell it, tractor and all? Of couse I could not afford it, but I can dream! Nice tractor you have there. That is on your 660 correct?

How did the check valves work on the forklift you built? Did they stop the side-to-side movement?

Happy holidays and welcome to 2010!

Nope not for sale. But seing as how you are 40 years younger than I am, you stand a fair chance of owning it some day. If you send a postcard every week addressed to the "Estate of Wardner R", Tewksbury, MA, you will increase your chances. LOL If my brother survives me, he will probably give it to you. Maybe pay you to take it away. He doesn't like tractors.

The double acting piloted flow checks did improve the tilting for a short while. But I still have the problem and don't feel safe using the tractor as a small man-lift for trimming trees or hedges. I think the right side cylinder has a bad piston packing (O-ring).

I have moved on to another project this winter. Currently fabricating a fast hitch for my W-400 LP. When that is done I will install a large winch on it. I have about 4 here and haven't decided whether to go mechanical or hydraulic.

I'm going to have to keep an eye on this project. I'm seriously thinking about restoring this W450 when I get the time and place to do it and it'll be a lot more useful with a hitch on it. Sam
