I got for christmas a Drill doctor what a great help in the shop. I had alway shapened my drill bits by eye. I begain where glass's when I turned 40 along time ago and now need super spec's just to read the paper. so it has gotten hard to shapen small thinks. I love this tool if you don't have one you need one! Oldiron29

No Gordo but they said you can. I mostly drill mild steel. Regular bits with good edge are just fine for me. Not work on airplane. Oldiron29

My wife just asked me last night if maybe I would want one of those....quite a coincidence! So it does a good job for you? Guess I better look into the cost and see if maybe this is a direction I want to go. Seems like I buy a new bit every time I need to make a hole.

We have one at the farm I work at. They are on the second one now after the first wore out but it works great and is quick. I don"t have on but they work good.

I bought a Drill Doctor several years ago right after they first came out. I've had pretty good luck sharpening std bits with it but haven't had any luck with cobalt or titanium bits. Thing has sit in the cabinet for 4-5 years .

If U want to sharpen cobalt or carbide bits or cutting tools, U have to use a diamond wheel and keep the wheel flooded with coolant.

A two dollar drill gauge I purchased at Sears in 1967 still works fine. Machinist showed me how to use it. Most important thing to remember- grind the short side to make it longer!

Nothing but cobalt/carbide in my shop. Learned this from a master tool and die maker. Too much lost time and too many near injuries with the HSS bits.

Gordo

yep absolutely an indespencible tool at my shop. I had been shown several hand techniques for hand sharpening. I got to where I could almost make the bigger sizes cut but never a factory edge. I had one of the first ones that I wore the chuck out after 10yrs and got a 350x for christmas. I have to say I really liked the old one more and the new one doesn't do split point. Like everything else, the new one is built much cheaper and lighter duty. Fred
