Just a quick update for all that were helping out and following along.

The Super A that I"d been stumped on starting is now running and running well. Happy New Year!

What exactly the problem was will remain a bit of a mystery. Electrical system, air intake, fuel, etc. was all checking out but there was no fire at all.

We tried tow starting it but no luck.(the ground was a bit slippery though?!)

Still stumped an old neighbor recommended I put a shot of gas in each cylinder head. It fired and quit and then fired right up again. After a bit more fire than bargained for...my own negligence! (ref. prev. post) It sat for a week before I could get the fuel line repaired and get back out to it.

Today a shot of ether in the air cleaner and it fired right up. It ran good. I dialed in the new carb. and it seems to be running great.

Now on to those next maintenance projects. Happy New Year and thanks all for your thoughts and insight!

Congrats on your "A" starting. I have proplems getting back to my A as well. It sat for about a rear pending a leaking line by the fual/water separator. I wound up hand crafting a new line which took me about 20 work hours. I thought there were no parts so I made it. Now it won't start. What was the initial carburator settings
and how does one tell what brand carburator? I have been neglegent and I am sure the carb is gummed up but one would think after spaying about a can of cleaner through. Any ideas??

Most of the Carb's have the manufacturer stamped on them someplace. Zenith, Carter, and Marvel are the ones I'm aware of. They also should have a serial number on them someplace which would allow you to track down either a replacement or a rebuild kit.

I've learned the gist of any non-starting issue is to look at the three major components. Have you got spark? Have you got fuel? And have you got air? If you do then it should start. It may not run well but it should start. Depending on what you find you can go further down any of those paths to try to figure out what's going on.

Thanks, Reason I asked about where the nameplate would be is that the tractor is in Tampa, Florida and I am in Upstate NY I have be able to tell my bro where to look. I forced gas into the carb, It fires because the exhaust gets hot but it just not grab it gets that almost start thing going. I am just going to order a rebuild kit. Its a beauty I repainted it several years ago and used it in a couple of parades, hayrides and Trick or Treat I live in a residential neiborhood a tractor is a novelty, but it is one of those things I had to have because we had one on the farm when I was a kid.I want to sell it. Does anyone know what it might be worth? It has a 60" mower deck and is offset for cultivation. Turf tires @ 75%. It ran great but sat toio long

I know. Pitiful but to my own defence I had no line bender and I a am rusty not working with my hands much anymore.

OK. To a first-timer, it might be a pain. I used 5/16" steel brake line with some compression nuts and ferrules to fashion a fuel line for my W9. I don't have a line bender either, so I just carefully coiled it around a piece of black pipe.

Oh well, it'll only get easier.

need some more info as i will be going to Tampa to see dau and would be interested in buying the tractor. Send e-maik so i can find where it is.

I would've used a braided hose like this. You can make one in about 20 minutes. The swivel nuts are reuseable. The hose comes in an assortment of sizes. This is 5/16, but it comes in 1/4" too. It can also be used for hydraulics. Hal
