Farmall M Camshaft Gear and Idler Gear

It all started with the tractor dying while moving snow see this thread http://www.ytmag.com/cgi-bin/viewit.cgi?bd=farmall&th=744127.

Pulled the hydraulic pump and found that the idler gear was destroyed and in many pieces.

So my first question now is there any place other than case-ih that carries the idler gear and camshaft gear.

The second question is there a heavier duty model of either one.

I would go to a salvage yard and get one off of a Super M. I heard that the cam gears on those tractors were tougher due to live hydraulics. You could also watch e-bay.
 
they sell the camshaft gear here on this site for 139.00 it is the heavier gear that is used on the super m on up with the live pump. for an idler gear give mike a call at steel wheel ranch, he can set you up with a good used gear. google steel wheel ranch for the number. great people to deal with, and fast fast shipping.
 
A used idler gear should be easy to find, they only drive the governor and usualy are in pretty good shape unless something else fails and tears it up. Sometimes the bearing in center of hub and bearing shaft gets worn to much. Any replacement camshaft gear now should be based on the latest one IH cam out with in 1955, # 6760DB. When you get yours out and if you can see the # on the gear hub, it may have just a D on the end. If it has DA or DB, it was replaced sometime.
Just to make sure about the gears refered to, If you just removed the pump. Gear you can see in the hole is the camshaft gear.
 
i can get you a new cam gear for $120 and i should have a good used idler gear also. if you are interested let me know, randy
 
I guess it was the cam shaft gear that destructed, that should show how much I know, shop class in high school was a long time ago. The problem now is that it is going into January in northern Minnesota and I do not have a shop that I can pull this into and start working on it.
