Hi Guys, I started the process of fixing this old girl up and one of the 1st things is to clean the gas tank out. Low and behold it is like brand new galvanizing inside, "0" rust. Is this a factory thing or has someone restored the tank in the past?

Hard to say. My SH tank was dirty, although not excessively rusty, and my urestored SM with original paint, was clean. Guess it depends on whether or not the tractor was barn kept or left in the open - and whether or not the tank was kept nearly full over the years, or left mostly empty. I would say this: Regardless, consider yourself fortunate. Keep 'em full of gas and it will minimize problems in the future.....

I am really excited about this tractor. Everything has very little wear. Throttle linkage, draw bar, even the square tooth throttle lever is in great shape. The manifold came off and all the bolts came out of the head with out breaking. The motor is coming apart as it is locked up. All the dust caps are still in the cultivator holes etc. Near as I can tell this was a barn kept shredder tractor all it's life.

The inside of the tank on my "54 SH was perfect as well and this tractor defintely did not spend much time in a shed. I have yet to see one in need of any attention in the tractors I"ve worked on although it"s a frequent topic on this forum.

I am not an expert by any means but the 6 tractors I've worked on, with the exception of this one, needed major tank cleanouts.
