Difference between Hydro 70 and 686 Hydro

I was looking at finding a tractor to use as a loader to unload my auction finds and move machinery. Living in Minnesota it would have to work in the cold ( i know Hydros dont like the cold but i like the hydros because you can creep forward or back and not have to burn up a clutch.) What are the differences between the two models? more power? improvements? common problems? size? thanks, andy

There is no such thing as a 686 hydro. There is a hydro 86 tho. About the only differance is the late 86 hydros had the D-310 German diesel instead of the American D-312.

yes, I use a Hydro 86 with the D312 engine. The hydraulics work fine in the cold. Just a little slow when it's 20 below. The big thing with hydraulics is keep the moisture out. The D312 is a noisy engine and I'm half deaf. But it's bullet proof and will run forever. I know nothing about the German 310. They made the 656 in a Hydro too. It uses the 282 engine with glow plugs. It's a rock solid engine as well. None of them will have any power and if you are going to do any field work you want a gear drive. Of course I'm probably biased as both my gear drives, a 656 and a 666 have M&W turbos. There is no comparison between them and the Hydro 86. It's a dog.
