Transmission flush?

I have been draining water and sludge and oil out of the H tranny
and differential and I am wondering if I would be better off to pour
in some kero or diesel and drive it around and drain it or just pour
in the new gear oil and don't worry. I've read that flushing can
make the seals leak, but I don't know how likely that is to happen.
I'd appreciate any advice about what is better to do. I intend to use
the tractor for work rather than do a full restoration. Thanks very
much.

First open the drain and let all water out. It is not a good idea to put solvents in the transmission. Drive the tractor around and get the fluid as hot as you can. Drain and let set for a few days with the drain plug out. Refill and do it again. Get the fluid hot. Let the second fill drain with the plug drain open for a day or two also.
For the cost of two fills it will be worth it.

Drain out as much as you can, pour in 5 gallons of diesel, drive a couple miles down the road in high gear and then drain and fill with 6 gallons of new oil. I have done this before with pretty good results.

I like the complete drain, but instead of new gear oil to flush it , I save old hydraulic oil or atf. Keep it in a covered bucket to let the dirt settle and keep bugs out, then use this oil to flush with. Or drain 5 gal from your hyd system and use that , then replace that with new hyd oil , kinda freshen it up .......

Thank you all for your thoughts. I will keep the tractor indoors when it rains. I just got it about 10 days ago, so I don't know where it's been kept before. I am thinking now of taking the operator's platform off and manually cleaning in there with rags and such. It looks like it shouldn't be too hard to do, and I don't need the tractor till spring, so I have plenty of time to make mistakes and then fix them.
