Super A Problems...not starting

Hi all,

A new week and hopefully one that will see my tractor running.

Just wanted to solicit any thoughts and input from the group.
The initial thread if you"re so inclined to help and need to catch
up is back on page 4. My most recent posts with "diagnostics"
are dated 12/20.

Thanks so much.

You probably need to pull No1 sparkplug near the radiator and bring that piston to TDC on the compression stroke. Once you have the No1 piston at TDC pull the distributor cap and see where your rotor is pointing. It should be pointing to the No1 plug tower in the one/two o'clock area. As in this firing order. Hal
2-1
4-3 As the rotor rotates CW.
PS: If you're sure you're at TDC on the compression stroke with No1 piston and the rotor
is pointing somewhere else, your engine probably has jumped time. Could be the timing gear or the drive gear on the distributor.

question: I assume you are getting a spark at the plugs? In one of your earlier posts, you stated you didn't have a feeler gauge to properly gap your points? I would try actually gapping your points with a gauge. It's pretty tough, at least for me, to eyeball a few thousanths. I would think you'd at least get a pop though. Just a thought...

Have you checked for fire to your sparkplugs while someone makes an attempt to start the engine with the ignition switch in the on position? If there's no fire when cranking. You need to watch the points while some cranks over the engine to see if the points are opening and closing. Could be the rubbing block is worn off if they're opening and closing. Set the rubbing block on your points to the high spot on one of the lobes in the distributor. Use a .020" feeler gauge to see if the points are too wide or are too close. You may need to open them or close them. You just can't look and think they're ok you need to check them. Once they're set at .020" move the engine so the points close then rub them with a point file or use some 320 wet or dry to clean them. Hal
