farmall 560 diesel starter

i have a 560 diesel with a 282 block in it. the starter doesn't spin it fast enough to start it .I bought anought starter and it is the same way. do i have the wrong stater.

Is the tractor setting outside? If so you may need a block heater or radiator heater to keep the block warm. You should also use a lighter weight oil so it won"t be so thick. Make sure you push the clutch in too.
 
batterys?... did you load test them. if you only have one 12 v then thats part of the problem. you need two 6v in series or two 12v in parallel.
 
Check all connections including where the ground goes to the frame/ or in this case--the steering casting. When cranking, feel all connection spots & where the 2 terminals are on the solenoid. If any feel hot, you have a bad terminal end. Same for the back of the solenoid--heat there might be evidence of the contact disc or terminal studs going South. Batteries should be checked first for charge.--Assuming you already have done this.
 
An old boy over by me put a 1466 starter on his to wing it over. Personally, he redid my 460 diesel starter with heavy duty brushes and new solinoid (sp?) because of the same problem you describe. Spins over fine now, even in 20 degree temps will fire without block heater.
