Factory holes in Manifold ?

I started my Super-C after the engine overhaul and noticed an exhaust leak. After checking the gasket I noticed two small holes at the base of the manifold. Looks like they were drilled at the factory. It is an original IH manifold off a parts tractor and after checking others they all had the same holes. Some had plugs in them, some had screws, some were welded. What is the best way to plug these?

Two options, Some are left open to assist in warming the carb and reducing carb icing. Plugging can be done with tapered pins from a machine supply (or good hardware) store. Cut to a length to allow plugging and tight fit to flush. JimN

(quoted from post at 00:15:55 12/20/09) Drain holes, to let any rain or condensation from short runs drain out rather than into cylinders. Standard on vertical exhaust manifolds.
Yes, a drain hole. A lot of them are plugged with rust. Leave it open.

those are there for the people that dont know to use a rain cap or the million dollar can on exhuast pipe. save a tractor and cover exhuast.but what you can do is weld them shut and redrill with a smaller hole if it is an annoying exhuast leak from holes being enlarged over time.
