(Rebuilt Htdraulic pumps)

I am looking for a 17 gpm main hydraulic pump for my 504 Utility. Have read over the years that these pumps cannot be rebiult if the gear area in the housingis damaged. So how are pumps being repaired and sold as rebuilt? Only want to do this once and rather not take a chance with a used pump. Any advice or thoughts would be appreciated.

Had a salesman come into dealership many years ago with a rebuilt hyd pump all torn down so we could see how they did the job. I cannot remember if they bored it out and sleeved it or used a slightly larger out side diameter gear set, it looked really good . Dealer just wanted to stay with what IH offered though so never used any of them.

I bought a 17 gpm from Marshall's Tractor (they have an EBAY store). It comes from Hy Capacity and I gave about $360 for it, new. When using the 17 gpm pump, a bigger filter is a MUST! Ask me how I know. My loader is faster than most new tractors.

Here is a pic where the 17 gpm sucked the guts through the suction hole.

Charles, thanks for your prompt reply,I already have the bigger filter set up with the spacer for the cover, got the idea from you a while back. Before I shell out 400 bucks for a pump I need to be sure what I'm getting, hopefully not someone else's problem Thanks again,Butch.

Did you upgrade your 504's 17 gpm hydraulic pump from a lower gpm pump? I have a 340U with the 9 gpm external (camshaft driven) pump that I'd like to put an IH 1701 loader on. I anticipate the 9 gpm is going to be a little sluggish. I'd like to convert it to the IH 11 or 17 gpm internal pump, which originally were factory options, but didn't know if that is possible. The larger size filter is good information, but did you also have to change anything else, such as the control valve internals, etc? Can you just purchase an internal pump and install it, or are there additional components needed? Would you relate your experience, or email me directly?

Didn't mean to steal this thread, but when I saw the topic it was exactly the information I had been looking for.

Thanks

I had the 12 gpm pump and it was worn. I replaced it even swap. There are two thicknesses of pump cover gaskets. One is .024 and .018 I think. These are used to shim the pump. I used the .024.

If you are adding this in you may need other parts. The drive gear I am sure is there but when you buy a pump the driven gear is seperate. From IH the driven gear is about $180 and the suction tube was like $50. I was going to replace these for good measure, NOPE! Old went back in and doind fine.

I used 3/4" hose for supply, power beyond, and return lines (pictures below) with all work hoses 1/2", most new tractors have 3/8". I tried using the remotes, but the IH arrangement was clumsy and it used both of my remotes and SLOW. I thought it was the Pioneer couplings, but I have them on the new valve. Only adjustments I had to make was to tweek the priority flow divider to the power steering. It was getting hit hard and I just adjusted till it quit squeeling.

This is the plumbing I did as well as my control tower and 3 spool vavle bank. I bought a 3 spool in case I add a bucket mounted grapple or post hole auger or a third rear remote. Sorry the pics are substandard, I used my cell phone on those a couple years ago.

If you have any other questions, I'm open.
