3rd wheel weight on a SM-TA

I recently installed a 2nd set of rear wheel weights on my SM-TA. I may add a 3rd set, but I don"t know how to do it. All of the mounting holes are used up on the 2nd weight, but the parts manual has #49 331 D ATTACHMENT , which it says consists of two 6 818 D weights. The book says nothing about mounting bolts and their lengths. Does anyone out there have a good picture of an M with 3 sets of wheel weights mounted which clearly shows how it is done? Or, can anyone tell me what bolts to use and how to do it? thanks, Bob

My Dad used the slots around the outside edge of the weight. There are two pair of slots, alternate opposing slots and stack as many as you need. Don't recall bolt length but with this method you only handle one weight at a time to line up the bolts.
Good Luck,
Dave

Back in the day we mounted the first two weights using long boolts thru the wheel. After that we used square headed bolts in the slots of the preceeding weight. Usually adding 1 weight at a time that way but sometimes would use longer bolts & add two weights. Have gone as high as 8 weights doing that.

I know tractor pullers use grade 5 or 8 ready rod but I never was a fan of ready rod & only use it as a last resort or in an emergency.

You're only supposed to use 2 of the holes around the edge of the weight to mount the 2nd weight. The 3rd weight is attached using the remaining two holes/slots.

I also believe you need to rotate the weight so that a hole in the outer weight lines up with a slot on the inner weight.

Or, you can take them all off and install four long threaded rods in the wheel, nut on both sides. Slide as many weights on as you like.

Like they said, alternate slots on the outside of the weights. That parts book where you found the P/N will also list the lengths of bolts you should use. IIRC the bolts that go to the cast center are about a half inch longer than the rest.
On my pulling tractor I use AllThread/ReadyRod in two of the holes and then smooth bar on the other two holes for alignment. I DO NOT USE THIS IN THE FIELD (much ;)) I only do this bc you need to change weights quickly at the pull. This arangement will ALWAYS loosen up when doing field work no matter how tight you get the setup.

The inner and first outer weights are held on using two long bolts passing through the wheel. The other 5 weights use the remaining two holes and threaded rod going through all the weights (and wheel). I have found that this setup works well and is sufficient to hold the weight securely. I suppose that you could use threaded rod through the outer holes to add strength if you felt it necessary. Good luck!
