I am trying to find out what model I have for sure it has a 140 nose but the serial # is on the seat bracket FAA I have # on the clutch pedal side of the trans how do I tell

Apparantly you have a Super A seat and a 140 chassis. I can't really tell without seeing the tractor. From what you say I would use the serial on the clutch housing, not the one on the seat bracket. You might also post casting codes. They are in the form of Month*Day*Year. the year designation is a letter. 140's were made from 1958-1979 -- my info does not go that far.

The serial number tag on the clutch housing tells you that it is a 140.

Someone replaced the seat brackets with ones off an A or Super A for some reason.

Casting codes started over with ??-**-A in 1955. So, B = 1956, C = 1957, D = 1958, and so on...

John a picture would be nice. But there are a lot of differences between the A and the 140. The steering wheel is bigger on the 140 and it has a cap in the centre. The serial number on the 140 isnt on the seat bracket its on the bell housing behind the engine. The 140s after 63 were 12 volt with a key and push button start. A lot of people changed the hood and grill on the earlier models to make them look like a newer 140. Once you take all the sheat metal off they all look pretty much alike unless you know what to look for. Erik..

... or someone combined a 140 front with a Super A rear end. The torque tube may be of either. Examine all the casting codes and have a look at the brakes; the early Super A's had different brake bands from later Super A's and 140's.
Whatever it turns out to be, there is not much to worry about; in a 60 year history many odd things may have happened to your tractor.

(quoted from post at 08:38:35 12/15/09) The number on the seat bracket Is FAA 355221 and the number on the trans housing is 351687-r5

Okay, the number cast into the trans housing is the part number, not a 140 serial number.

The serial number under the seat indicates a very late 1954 Super A, just before the start of Super A-1 production (356001 is the first Super A-1 serial number).

Look for casting codes on the large parts, especially the engine. It should be as described earlier, in the format of XX-YY-A, month-day-year.

The year part of the date code should be a "Z" on all the cast parts. If the engine has a Z-code, then you have a Super A with 140 sheet metal.

well I looked on the motor --there is a part# I think which is 36725R2 then a -G-123 the only other #s except the firing order. But wat is is is what it is nothing I can do just wanted to know if I needed certen parts
