tappett noise?!?!

I have a early M and at an idle i guess i never noticed it much before but those dang tappets sound loud, makes me feel like tap dancin to "em...sure would give the cows something to laugh at ha ha. Is this something pretty normal or what? who knows it"s been in the family since new...maybe grandpa did a little dancin to it also?

Yes, at idle tappet noise is normal. You can check the valve clearance too, should be .017" hot or .019" cold.

Don't forget to add that well-used rocker arms get worn on the "tip" leaving a ridge that makes it impossible to set them accurately with a feeler gauge.

Have seen a lot of Ms that had a "rings and bearings overhaul" have a loud wrist pin knock at idle. Tractor will run for years with wrist pin knock though.

The next time you change your oil try adding some Lucas Oil Treatment to your engine oil. It may help.
