Head stud question

Of the 16 head studs on my Farmall M, 4 of them are 'long' (about 1/4 inch longer than the others). I took them out to have the block reworked and now it's time to put them back but I'm not certain where two of the four long studs go.

Two of them go under the governor control bellcrank bracket, but does anyone remember where the other two go?

My best guess, based on the drawing in the parts manual, is that the long studs all go in the same row. There are seven studs outside of the valve cover and it looks as though the long studs may go (from front to back) in positions 2, 3 and 5,6 (bell crank bracket).

Any information is most appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Take a close look at your cylinder head. There are a couple of stud holes that are actually tubes pressed into the head. The long studs go through those holes so that they are long enough for the heavy washers that are used between the nut and the head on those holes.

look at your cylinderhead. the other two long studs go where there are tubes cast into the head. there should be thick washers to go under the nuts.

Thanks guys, that was a big help. I'll pick up a couple of heavy washers and get this put together.
