I have a tractor that has a BN sticker on the hood. I thought it was a Farmall B. What's the difference between the 2? Thank you, Joe

Nothing but the length of the two rear differential shafts and their housings, and a few odds and ends that result from the different widths (drawbar, seat platform and mounting, pedal guard, longer shaft on the right brake pedal on the B. Measuring from the side of the transmission out to the final drive, the B is about 22" on each side. The same measurement on the BN is about 18", making the tractor overall 8" narrower than the B.

I get a lot of mileage out of this picture. If you are sitting in the seat and look down to your right and see that nice big gap betwixt the fender and your seat bracket, chances are you are on a B regardless of the decals. If their is no gap it could be a BN. Not as technically detailed as measuring but it works for a jumping off point.

Thanks guys! Why did they make a BN If there is only a few inches in difference between it and the B? I just scraped off the tag and the number is FABN 119984 can you decipher that? I just picked it up this morning. It's in better condition than I thought. I assumed it would be frozen from sitting but it wasn't. I will try to fire it up tomorrow. Thanks for all the help, Joe

For some operations a B was a few inches too wide. So . . .
FABN means it is a BN. 119984 means it was made n 1945.
