OT identifying starter generator units

I will be going thru a large selection of old starters, generators and such from an old repair shop. I am looking for a Delco Remy starter/generator. The kind that starts an engine by belt pulley and then it charges. How can I tell these apart from the plain old generator?

If you have it apart, the starter/generator is a "hybrid", having one field coil wound with HEAVY wire (like a starter) and one field coil wound with light wire (like a generator).

The other way would be to look at the tag, if the Delco tag is still one them, and match the number against some known numbers for stater/generators.

To try to come up with that list, what would the original application be... Due to mounting, Cub Cadets used units of the opposite rotation than the typical units used on Briggs, Kohler, Wisconsin, and (perhaps) Tecumseh.
