What are differances of IH 504 Utility+504 Farmall

Hello i am waiting for a guy to call me back on a International 504.He didnt say if it was industrial(which i am looking for) or not.I see that the C-153 engines do not have sleeves and i do want to stay away from that. He claims it needs a tune up to run better.Do they use the same engine??? thanks john

Sorry, the C153 engine is what makes it a 504. All 504s, Farmall, Utility, and Industrial, all have the C153 engine if they are gassers.

I just read it on another site. It was first started out as a c123 engine(that is smaller than the farmall H c152)It was used in the farmall Super A and was bored out to the max at 153 cubic inch.To get that size they had to eliminate the sleeves.I dont think thats a good idea. The engine block is not as big as an H also.
Correct me if i am wrong?? thanks john

That is correct, to the best of my knowledge.

Some IH engines are not sleeved. Cub engines for example. Also the C153, and the C301.

These engines can be sleeved by putting in a thin sleeve that leaves them possibly a bit undersize. Any good engine shop can do it.

If the tractor you buy doesn't smoke, sounds good, and has good power, I would not worry about it. You will not use the tractor enough to wear the engine out in your lifetime unless you're using it as your main tractor to farm full time. That is, doing all the tillage, planting, and harvesting on 40-50 tillable acres. You gotta run that tractor 6-8 hours a day full out to even have a hope in heck of wearing it out.

As folks have said before the 504 uses the C-153 engine, regardless of International or farmall. My F-504 had a blown engine and I replaced it with an engine from a I-504. The I-504 IS a utility model. There are small differances between the two, but they use most of the same parts. My local tractor junk yard has two I-504's which I have taken alot of parts from. As said before I wouldn't worry about the engine not having sleeves, I just replaced the rings and bearings in mine and now it runs like a top. Good luck.

Buddy of mine hs a c153 engine in a C Farmall. He said if the engine came from a combine or whatever, used as a auxilary engine, it would not have sleeves. If it came in a tractor, it would have sleeves. Aux engines are also not drilled for pilot bearing. 153 engine is much different than 123 or 113. 153 has water pump in a different place. Just a little info as I have been told. Bernie Steffen

C-153 engines from combines or windrowers will not work on the 504 tractors, the rear mount that bolts to the clutch housing is smaller. I think they will work with the smaller letter series tractors, you just have to have machining done for the pilot bearing.

Better get up on those engines as you sure have some bad info. First the 113,123,135 were sleeved with wet sleeves so you cant bore them out to get 153cu in. You can bore the 113 to take 3 1/4 wet sleeve making it a 135

(quoted from post at 17:51:20 12/09/09) That is correct, to the best of my knowledge.

Some IH engines are not sleeved. Cub engines for example. Also the C153, and the C301. ................

You can add to this list the C221 and C263 when used in combines or replacement engines.
