Since I bought new 0 cables in my rebuild, the + cable - to - ground doesn't bend enough, and is too large diameter to pass near the center of the battery box cover, up & over the head of the TC unit, to get to where it grounds to the left fuel tank mount-top of TC unit. In short, the cover looks as if it will cut into the cable if I clamp down otn the bat box cover.

Over the years, someone cut a notch on the left bat box left side plate, at the area of the + battery post. I might could pass the cable thru this hole, to the top of TC.

What was the original, or proper routing of the + cable ?

The original ground cable was only about 6 inches long and did not exit the battery box. It was grounded at the bolt that holds one of the battery box side panels to the instrument panel. You can see this in the wiring diagram in the parts catalog.
