So what is the model number progression?

I left the farm over 50 years ago. I knew about A, B, H M W6 and later the C. I have a 450 but am confused as to the progression of the models after the letter series. Appreciate your sharing, thanks. Leo

SuperAs became 1XXs, SuperCs became 2XXs, Hs 3XXs and Ms 4XXs.

Hs and Ms went pretty uneventfully through X00, and X50, and got into trouble when they put too much power to the rear ends in X60.

At that point, IH realized they'd better be designing a new line of tractors from the ground up, and the numbers after that are more than I can sort out.

MBI publishes a book by Ken Updike (our own Bermuda Ken), "International Harvester Tractors 1955-1985" that is a good read, a handsome book and lays it all out.

Super M"s till 1953.

MTA in 1954

00 In 55 and 56

50 57 and 58

60 series started in 59

06 series started in 63 or 64

56 series in 69

66 series in 72

86 series in 76

88 series in 82

Then when Tenico bought out IH it went by the case numbers for a while followed by-

71XX

72XX

89XX

MX

That is the order of number progression.

I may be off a year here or there of when the new series came out but I"m close.
