Hi Guys,
I'm using the live hydraulics off of a 55 Farmall 300 to put on a 53 stage 1 super H. I've read the archives and have good understanding on what I want to do. The block that attaches to the pump seems to have the piping welded to it. I want to use about half the metal tubing and then go to hydraulic hoses. Can you do that? If so is it just a matter of welding some threaded fittings on? Do they make a compression fitting? Any insight is appreciated.

A coupler from tube to threads can be brazed on easily. choose the sizes to avoid restriction.
The bigger line is suction, so make sure it is appropriate hose. JimN

Yes, I got some compression fittings at an Auto parts store for my 400. I plumbed in a valve on the pressure line, but not the supply line. Make sure you have both sizes before you get stated though.

Ok that helps. Next question. The suction side is 1" and the block then reduces to 3/4" going into the pump. Using the belly pump as a reservoir only allows a 1/2" on the bottom as a suction port. Is that going to work? Hydraulics will primarily be used for a dual cylinder 3 point hitch and as a remote to adjust cutting height on a shredder.

I drilled and tapped the lower drain plug in the belly pump out to 3/4 inch pipe for the suction side of the pump and used 1/2 inch on the pressure side. I just brazed fittings on the metal tube to use the hose size that I needed.

I am in the process of putting live hydraulics on my 1940 Farmall H. It does not have a belly pump. It is a "distillate" model, so I built a tank to hold the hydraulic fluid and mounted it where the distillate tank was mounted. I had to change the 1/8 inch plate on the front of the block and also the cover plate to get the bolt pattern correct for the pump. I don't think you need a threaded fitting on the suction side of the pump. I plan to just use hose clamps on mine. It is gravity fed as I understand it. The tank got painted today and will be installed in the morning. Tomorrow I will get the hoses I need and hook it up. I would give you a picture if I knew how? If you want to email me, I can email you pictures.

after adding live hydralic to tractor make sure to check hydralic pressure to see if it is still in factory spec. i have a 53 SM with M&W add on live pump. pressure was set to high on relief valve, and took out crank gear cam gear and ruined pump. the old tractors
weren't designed for pressure like the new ones. lucky i had a donor tractor. just my experience.
