2 Bad gauges?

I need help with my fuel gauge. I have a new sending unit and have tried two differant gauges with the same result. Everything is wired correctly and all wires check out as far as current (no shorts). Every time I hook it up, no matter the float position, it will bury on full. I have checked the ground on the sending unit wire at the gauge with a test light and get very dim on empty and bright on full. Am I correct to assume that I have tested two gauges with the same problem? If so where can I get a new gauge. Thanks for any help.

What is this on? Can you put your meter on ohms & move the float through its range & see what the meter reads. This would be taken with leads attached between the "hot" terminal & the flange of the gage. Make sure no other wires are attached when doing the resistance check.

Is the sending unit fully grounded? If the sending unit is installed in the tank, and the tank is mounted on the tractor, is the tank properly grounded to the tractor chassis? Somehow or other, that sending unit HAS to be grounded for proper function.

Is the gauge itself properly grounded? IIRC it has to be. With an ohmmeter, the sending unit should measure about 33 ohms at one end and 240 ohms at the other. Sorry, don't remember which is E and which is F. Also be sure the power and sending unit wires are connected to the proper terminals on the gauge.

I am just stating the obvious but if you put fuel in the tank and the gauge moves towards E then you just need to switch the wires.

You got it tractorman... The gauge itself did not have a good ground. It's funny how a small thing like that can have you pulling your hair out. Thanks for the info. I'm super excited to finally have my gauge working correctly. Thanks again.
