My 560 has TA. I was pulling out some trees yesterday. When in 1st TA, the clutched seemed to slip. It did not slip in regular drive. Is that an indication that my clutch is shot? Or will linkage adjustment make a difference? Thanks,

ta's don't slip. they either go in to low range and pull or they don't move at all. If it is slipping in low range then the ta clutch is getting weak or needs to be adjusted. If you have a owners manual it tells you how to adjust in there. Just put a TA in my 560 a few weeks ago.

Tractorman if I understood correct he has no slipage with the t/a handle forward and when pulled back he had slipage. With the handle pulled back the t/a clutch is disingaged. Only clutch that would slip is the main one. If the main one doesn't slip with handle forward the only thing left to give is the t/a unit.

The TA in my 460D slips on the low side. As long as the load is light the TA works Okay.

As the rollers wear in the TA assembly they get flat sided and grooves are worn in the ramps. When that happens the rollers no longer roll on the ramps to grab the carrier tighter as the load increases and they will begin to slip.

If the main clutch was the problem in this case, the slippage would be worse with the TA lever ahead, since in that position there would be more torque required of the clutch for the same load on the tractor.
