Buying a 1486

I am looking at buying a 1486 International with duals. Will this tractor be big enough to pull a 9 shank chisel plow with front disks? My soil is on the heavy side with some gently rolling hills. Thank you and have a great day. Perry

she should be strong enough to pull a 9 shank, we do with a 1086 in the same type of ground. if not pop the cap off the pump and back the screw out a fuzz.

I have a 1486 for years with a nine shank caseIH chisel plow with a drag and it will pull in heavy soil in low 4 and some cases hi 1st.

I have a 9 shank glencoe in sw wisconsin and my 190hp 1466 wont pull it, not enough traction. But glencoes usually pull hard and we have rolling hills. Takes alot of power and traction to stay on the countour. JD 4850 MFWD pulled it at 7 mph on the flat. now I have an JD 8400 with 280 hp and I can pull it anywhere at 8 mph. Does a better job at higher speed. but again I dont have the flat land and good soil like in iowa.

My friend that I worked for in college a few years ago had a 1486 that was putting out about 200 hp. We tried his Blue-Jet 5 shank ripper with it. Not enough traction to pull all five in the ground at about 24" depth. We ended up taking off 2 of the 5 shanks and it pulled it fine after that. He had two mfwd magnums that he used to pull it instead. Kind of a waste to even try it on the 1486 but his neighbor wanted to try it. This was in some hilly ground here in sw Iowa right after harvest in early Nov 2002.

Mike,
"Rolling Hills"??? Compared to the Rockies!!! I am over Janesville way and west of the Rock River there are "rolling" hills. Those things over there are wrap a leg around the seat and don't miss church on Sunday hills!
I was soil sampling over in Reedsburg this spring and I was a little nervous on an ATV.

My buddy is pulling and 11 shank old JD with the outside two shanks removed with his MFWD 7120. We have pulled it with the 4430, but it blows.
