I have a 706 with a gas 236 put a oil pressure gauge on it at idle it is 5lbs and at 1800 rpm
it is 25lbs what could be causing low oil pressure tractor runs good no nocks or smoke

Without getting into many things in the engine and pump that could cause low oil pressure oil that is contaminated with gas and oil that is old can cause low pressure.
Change the oil and filter and see if it get's better pressure.

I changed the oil and filter tractor runs great i changed the oil and decide to put a gauge on it and check the pressure

with out knowing what oil ya have in it myself i would be looking at mains and rods and cam bearings Or a partially stuck open pressure relief valve . and don't run a multi grade oil run 30 weight Low ash only in them along with 93 octane fuel .

Get it good and hot and then recheck. Like, run it fer an hour. Bet the pressure goes down even more.

Kinda sounds like the ol' gal needs an overhaul. They're not much for going over 5,000 hours. Those bearings wobble out with time.

Yep that is what they all have and to check you have to remove the filter base off the engine and get into it . Ya had best first SPEND thiry bucks and get and I T manual and set down a READ it over so ya know what your doing , then next get and operators manual and set down and read it so ya know what to use in it for oild and fuel requirements . Yes Y T is a super great place with a wealth of knowledge and yes i am the leading GURU on 706's on here and know every quark of a 706 so when i tell you something you can take it to the bank that it is gospel .So like i said get and IT manual and read up on the pressure relief and how to take it apart and inspect it .

The aluminum oil filter housings that used fiber relief valves often have problems with leakage. You need to inspect the valve disk to see if it is eroded and allowing oil to bypass. Later and replacement filter bases used metal disks and do not suffer the same problems.

Like Owen says, the aluminum filter base had lots of problems with the fiber type valves, and often eroded the seat as well. I installed several of the newer style metal valves along with a heavier spring that was included in a gasoline engine overhaul improvement kit with new distributor and various other parts that IH came out with to help improve the life of these engines.

I think that 10-30 oil is too light when working a tractor. Your cam bearings may be getting worn too. I would switch to 30wt and try it. If you use it in the Winter install an engine heater. I had that problem on a Farmall A in 1976 after I restored the tractor and redid the tractor engine with a sleeve kit and new bearings. After I installed the plow and made several passes across the garden I noticed the oil pressure dropping. I had used 10-30 oil after the rebuild so I pulled out of the garden and drained the oil. Put in 30wt and never had anymore pressure problems. When we were on the farm we used 40wt in the H & C. Never had any engine problems up until 1953 when I was drafted
and we had a 10-20 and it was 21 years old before the engine was overhauled. Still used 40wt oil in it too. Hal
