HI My neighbor gave me a Bostitch pancake air compressor that works great, but has a hole in the side that looks like a 22 shell size. Can this be repaired safely, and how? Thank You Dave K

The only safe way to repair that tank is to buy a new tank to replace it.

Throw that thing away it is not worth the trouble it could cause. Somethings are better left alone.

Don't take a chance. The local repair shop owner came in one morning to find that the air tank had gone out through the side of the building during the night. Part of the tank was at the other end of the building. I believe those tanks are made of high carbon steel, & are hard to repair.

What Happened to the Relief Valve?

The relief valve is set to "pop off" at a higher pressure than what it takes to "explode" a faulty tank. I've personally witnessed such a catastrophy. Luckily no one was injured.

Only way to safely repair it is cut a big chunk out of it and trow it away so noone else can try to fix it
