Farmall A Project Pictures

I have uploaded a couple pictures of the Farmall A that is our winter project. This is our first tractor restoration.

Thanks for the help that many of you have given me already. I have found this site very helpful to get information from those who have experience. Thanks!

Well it runs good and the hydrolics and PTO work (it is not a SA but it has a hydrolic unit that was added) but the steering is very loose and we'll probably put new rings in the motor just to be safe. It also has a few leaks so after sandblasting we'll be replacing the gaskets and seals. Then with some paint she'll be a good-looking work and show tractor. My dad and I are restoring it together.

Oh yeah that's the pile for next year and the year after. The wood for this year is stacked and tarped next to our Classic Boiler wood burner. Keeps the house and (maybe more importantly) the shop warm.

If you're going to redo the engine I think I would install a new sleeve/piston kit. Those old seals on the sleeves are probably getting at the age when they need replacing. Be sure to clean that block area where the seals are installed since rust & dirt seem to collect in that area. Hal
PS: I did it on this Farmall A back in 1975 & 1976.

Those leaks and what not are worth chasin' down' fer sure, but she don't look bad as she is. I've got a BN all overhauled anddolled up (and it needed it), and A SuperC still in her faded original paint. Each has its attractions.

Just be careful about the sandblasting to either have the part away from the moving parts or seal them off well, because, even then, and despite your best precautions, that stuff will get into places you never imagined were there.

Sounds like a rewarding project, especially workin' with your dad.

Braves go to Chief and ask, "How bad winter?
Chief says, "Cold go get fire wood.
Chief then calls local weather station on cell phone and ask about winter.
Going to be cold!
Braves come with fire wood and Chief says go get more, cold winter comming.
Chief calls weather station back, "How cold winter?
Really Cold!
Braves bring more wood and Chief says go get more.
Chief calls weather station 3rd time and ask, "How cold winter?"
Must be a really tough one comming on the Indians are gathering wood like crazy!
