I have rebuilt the shifter pieces under the floor of my 706 and adjusted the top linkages, but it still doesn"t like to go into gear. I have seen 06 series with 66 and 86 shifters on them does this seem to work better?
Thanks,

Don"t waste your money and time. I had mine rebuilt on my 806 and it shifted perfect. Did you just replace things? Or did you replace and adjust as the manual stated?

I rebuilt and adjusted under the floor. The top I just adjusted to the best I could understand the manual. Why do I see some with the newer shifters?

it would be the 56 and 66 series. the 86 had the levers on the left of the seat.

all 3 styles will wear with long use. both of our 806s were updated before i was old enough to drive them and now are showing some wear. they still shift though. from what i've gathered, the 06 style has very little tolerance for wear before it won't shift.

Not going into gear, Meaning it grinds going into gear or just does not find the slot? If its grinding you need to adjust your transmission brake.

Did you adjust your clutch and TA dump valve linkage? If they are out of adjustment they will shift hard. Also adjusting the trans brake can help alot. You can put a shifter off a 756 on. 66 and 86 series will not work on a 706. Its going to run $300 to $600 in salvage yard parts.

I converted our 706 with a kit off of a 756 it was the best thing that I ever did to the tractor. The 06 shift is a joke.

My 2606 with 5 speed and forward/reverse lever grinds a little going into gear. Does it have a transmission brake? There is no other linkage except the clutch linkage that I know of and don't remember it in the IH-25 manual.
