Good Morning,

I was reading the artical on the oil weight needs to be the correct weight. What weight do I need to use on a 460? I have used 30 weight is this the right oil?

30 wt was specified in the book. The use of low ash oil is mandatory to prevent valve coking. Many modern oils are low ash, but read up on the issue, and choose carefully. I and Many others recommend 15-40 diesel grade oil. Multi wt oil is an advantage, and modern oils are far superior to those of the era when it was new. JimN

I walked away from my message for a bit and forgot it was for the air cleaner. Use the same engine oil in it you put in the Crank Case.
I recommend the oil in my first post. Don't use 10wt or 5W anything as they are too light and can be sucked into the engine. JimN

I always use what ever I was putting in the crankcase, either 20 or 30wt
now with the multigrades and lot less use of the tractor, just keep some 20 wt around to use in it
Ron

I thought it was to be a non-detergent oil for the oil bath filter so that the sediment settled out of the oil. 30W summer, 20W or 10W in extreme cold conditions.
